Errors when trying to clone products

Posted on by

We keep getting an error when attempting to clone products - it states that the error may be caused by insufficient permissions. I am a system administrator so I am not sure what security role I may need (assuming that permission settings/security roles is the problem). Can anyone assist with how to fix or what permissions we need? Thanks in advance

Is it possible that the product's parent / Family hierarchy is not existing anymore or deactivated?

Might be plausible reason why it cannot find the product with that id.

Hi thanks Judy for your response. We have confirmed that I have the appropriate permissions - System Administrator and also System Customizer .. however still no luck on cloning. Here is a copy of the log/error message.

When the error occurs, doesn't it offer you to download a more detailed error log or description? If so, could you please post it here?

RE: Errors when trying to clone products

    Hi,

Do you try to Clone a product in the Sales app? If so, I suggest that you could check your steps according to the process below.

    I. Make sure that you have one of the following security roles or equivalent permissions: System Administrator, System Customizer, Sales Manager, Vice President of Sales, Vice President of Marketing, or CEO-Business Manager.

The way to check your security role. Follow the steps below.

    1. Go to Options. In Dynamics 365, in the upper-right corner of the screen, choose the Settings button  > Options.

    2. Scroll down to the very bottom of the Set Personal Options dialog box, and then choose View your user information.

    3. To check your security role, on the nav bar, choose the down arrow  next to your name, and then choose Security Roles.

II. Go to Settings > Product Catalog.

III. In the Product Catalog area, select Families & Products.

IV. Select a product family, product, or bundle record that you want to clone, and on the command bar, select Clone.

A new product record will open with the same details as the original one except for the name and ID.

The new record is created under the same parent node as the original one.

    Hope it makes sense.

    BR,

    Judy
