You have to enable the option on the AX2012 Server Configuration.
Create new one and change the values.
Although the group is local to the server, I've had issues on my local install of AX on my laptop where I get this same message if my laptop can't connect to our domain controller (ie my laptop is not on our corporate network).
We have the same problem here indeed. The user is authenticated in the AD but as the machine is not in the corporate network, authentication fails. The only option is to enable the VPN connection to the office (and you have to be Lucky that it is compatible, because the one we have is cause connection problems between the local client and local AOS :'( )
Some of my collegues do not have this issue though, so that's weird.
For some of us, it works by running the debugger as administrator...
In 2012 R2 I have had problems getting the AX client to communicate with the debugger. I changed the client to run as Administrator and it works fine now.
