Standard Cost by Company not site or auto create standards for all sites?

We are doing a standard cost conversion when implementing AX 2012 because average cost in 2009 was pretty bad (lengthy closes, blizzard of errors, millions of transactions).

In 2012 we will now have the pain of creating multiple costs across multiple sites when there is really only one cost by company.

Is there an easy scenario to implement standard cost at the company level? In our converted data the site options in the tracking, storage and other groups are greyed out. If somehow we could remove the check on financial inventory by site would that work?

Or has anyone created a mod to copy new standards automatically to all sites as an option?

    There is copy functionality off the costing version, you should play around with it and read this: technet.microsoft.com/.../hh209398.aspx

    Also, I've copied costs around to other sites using the Add-In, its pretty easy. A couple questions first though:

    1.) How many cost price records will you have, or how many released products?

    2.) If the item is manufactured, does a manufactured item from site 1 ever become a component at site 2?  

    3.) If yes to #2, does your costing sheet need to have a full cost breakdown at site 2 including the cost groups from the manufactured at site 1?

    If you answered more than 7,500 to item 1, or yes to item 2, the copy costing version functionality will perform better.

    We are way over 7,500 more like 75,000 cost price records with two sites (factories) and depending on how to count 500,000 to 1,000,000 BOM records. Close in 2009 for that company at average cost was taking days. Standard may not be pretty but at least the close will close.

    It would not be difficult at all to write a small class to "sync" standard costs from a main site to one or more (all) other sites.  Of course the other sites would not be calculated costs without their own bill of material and route setup, but that doesn't seem to matter to you.  I would even make it "smart" and only sync when a difference was detected.  Those numbers of records do not bother me at all, in terms of scale and performance.

    Hopefully the record numbers are not an issue. They were not really in 2009 except in the close. As far as a solution depending on the pain bringing up a grid with all the companies and all the sites allowing the user to chose the ones to push cost to is probably the best solution (using some of the underlying copy code). We have seven companies with up to five sites a piece, it is a lot to maintain given the constant influx of new items and the BOM that go up to 13 levels deep.

    You're not syncing across companies are you?  Just across sites within each company?

    We would like to. Our cost method is really big bucket. Standard is convenient for reporting and some basic analysis but given the difficulty in creating a transaction driven standard it is mostly a reference. In fact most items and products are made before we have final routings for all the component items.

    Our captive companies operate at a fixed markup. So a standard for CO 1 would be CO 1 + 10% or whatever is current.

    Really we seek the quickest way to avoid having someone doing something fall into the trap of not having a cost.
