Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Archived)

Could not load file or assembly

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi Guys,

We have a situation with NAV 2015 Administration tool.

1. On our server, we have installed NAV 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018

2. All versions services are working fine and their respective RTC's can be accessed with their ports.

3. When we try to access the NAV 2015 Administration tool, we get below error.

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Types, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)

We already tried to register the "Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Types" with following command.

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\RegAsm.exe /register "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\80\RoleTailored Client\Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Types.dll" /tlb

Any input or links to resolve the above error will be very helpful.

    Hi Alexandar,

It is my concern too, that if we re-install NAV 2015 it should not create new problems with other versions.

Generally I would not recommend to install different NAV versions on the very same host, as there is a risk of situations, which you had described; moreover, errors might greatly very depending on the CUs you use and even the sequence of installation of versions and further CUs updates.

E.g., you can try to re-install NAV 2015, and probably admin tool will work, but there is no guarantee that for other versions it would not result in an error.

I'd recommend to move server applications to different VMs.
