I just upgraded from GP 2010 to GP 2016. I'm looking for the printable manuals for the different models. However, they are not in the same place as they were fir GP 2010. I researched the GP 2016 manuals in Customer Source and the only thing that came up was manuals for GP 2013. Does anyone know if there are manuals for GP 2016 or are we to use the manuals for GP 2013? Thank you in advance.
It's my understanding that they haven't released new manuals in quite awhile. I believe GP 2013 was the last version where they released an updated set of manuals. See here:
Maybe someone else has come across them but I certainly haven't.

Hi Katie, we really are not going back and doing manuals as we have in the past for each version and the core does not change, just features. What I would do is go to our directory page, it will list out all our changes for GP 2016 RTM and GP 2016 R2 there is a doc for each release that you can review all the features with.
It is there for 2015 as well.
You can go to the bottom and get specific information on modules, such as self service, project, workflow, web client, etc.

Terry - I understand not re-doing everything every version but the lack of both training and documentation is a serious, serious problem for partners as well as new/existing customers.
For existing clients, few upgrade every release so they often have to piece together 2-4 (or more!) versions of the documentation and compare to enhancement lists to figure out if a GP 2013 (or GP 2010) document is accurate.
For new customers, I think it is even more difficult as they only know the current version may not recognize the "classic" window appearance that is in much of the documentation. And when I last checked in October, there were zero GP 2016 training courses for them.
And the real kicker is that EVERY current customer is paying for current documentation and training resources as a "benefit" of their enhancement. It appears to me that GP customers are having their enhancement dollars allocated to other Microsoft projects like Dynamics365/AX. I believe the historic calculation was that 50% of enhancement dollars went to product upgrades and 50% went to documentation. (I didn't just make this up: Microsoft has often had to provide it to assist with sales tax calculations on enhancement purchases.)
The latest Enhancement Guide lists "Unlimited access to online training, certifications & user guides" as one of the six "Benefits at a glance". Considering the documentation is outdated and the online training system appears to be down today, this benefit feels very misleading.
I'm all in with the ones that replied and wanted an updated document..
The same discussion goes on in the Dynamics 365 forum (community.dynamics.com/.../218577 ) and the product hasn't been release that long yet (less than 6 months).
Customers are paying for the documentation and training.. but most important of all, nobody is wanting to start looking at 5 different places / sources to grab the required information (as Lisa said), and when y a user is in the middle of doing something in GP, having a moment of doubt, the first thing he/she does is press F1 or click on the "?" icon to lookup for instructions.
Lack of providing such accurate and updated documentation will doom the future of Dynamics GP on premise (and even online) and drive customers away towards other products that care more about training & documentation. It adds up to the message of uncertainty about the future of Great Plains as a product itself since customers realize there has been no significant update on the books since release 2013.
It is sad, but the ball is in Microsoft's camp. If no PDF / Word document, at least provide a solid online portal like other ISV do for their product. I understand the payload it is to maintain a good technical / user documentation, and it could somehow reduced if maintained online only.
There is a desperate need out there in the community for the documents to be updated. I understand that the resources are not there for the current release of GP, but let's face it, there have been SIX releases of GP since the last document came out! That is insane to think that the documentation is that old.

It's time to update them and provide some new training content to users as well. People still love and believe in this product and want to continue supporting and using it.
