The features that you can opt-in to for the April release look very limited and based on the article below it is just user experience updates only.
When I look at the article for the new user experience that is released with the April opt-in it looks to be the same UI that has been out for a little while.
I have also updated opted in for the April release in a Dynamics 365 environment but I can't see any visible change. Maybe it is meant to be that way.
Is there a more detailed list somewhere of what actually gets changed in the Dynamics 365 environments when the April updates opt-in is enabled?
any recent update on the April 2019 upgrade ? we are trying to analyse the impact on our custom module. we have enabled April 2019 preview on our sanbox but there is no visible change on the instance. version and Patch of CRM has not changed it is still showing V9.1
I have enabled the preview in a sandbox and there isn't anything obvious to say any changes have been made. The "about" screen doesn't show that it is in preview and is exactly the same version number as my production instance. Going in to the Customer Service Hub though, I can see that the navigation bar changes (permanently expanded and recent records at the top) are there, so that makes me think it is updated.
Very unclear overall, and I don't want to waste my time testing things to find out nothing has actually changed.
It looks like all the changes available so far are in the UCI, which my client isn't using yet.
I find it very odd that the version number doesn't change after applying the updates and there is a serious lack of information about what may appear in the April update between now and April. When it was announced at the end of last year this update was being called 'v10' but I can't see that this is going to be considered a major release.
Hi Hamish - Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the delayed response. Did you check the following article that mentions the list of features in Platform and apps? - docs.microsoft.com/.../preview-april-2019-updates As you rightly said, there are limited number of features available as of now and over the course of Feb and March we will have additional features available for opt-in. We will continue to update the release notes that reflects which features will be released during Feb/Mar.
Hi Bozwell - Every April & October release will be considered as Major release as per our product update page here. dynamics.microsoft.com/.../product-updates
As we will have one version of Dynamics 365 and have continuous updates as a true SaaS service, the version numbers will not be updated (or will become insignificant) such as no version number for Azure or Power BI etc.
Hi Ramana, yes I did check the article - it's the same one that I put in my original question :) I was just wondering if there was more of a detailed list of changes as I can't see anything different in my Dynamics 365 environment that has the preview applied. I started a trial environment in Jan and it already had the UX updates that are described in the Opt In article.
Re: the version numbers that the other people on this thread are asking about. In this article it says that the version number on the About page in Dynamics 365 will read April 2019 (preview) when the preview is installed. however, for myself and looks like for others too the version number hasn't changed.
Basically, it is really hard to know if the preview has been applied properly or not.

As you have mentioned above that the features available as of now and over the course of Feb and March we will have additional features available for opt-in. It is quite difficult for us to know what has come in or could be opted-in. Are there any specific timelines (during FEB and MARCH) that we could keep in mind for the new features that come in? We are currently doing technical assessment of what is expected to change and the overall effort that would be required for the April release..
The page doesn't seem to have been updated recently, so I'm not sure if that is pending or just hasn't been done.Either way, I'm not getting the notification when I click "About". My instance has been activated for the preview:But there is nothing to indicate this on the "About" pop up:

Hi Pradeep - As I responded earlier, the April 2019 update version will be 9.1 and may not be changed for this release. Please note:- This is our major release, as per our product updates article. As we are on true SaaS service, the version number will be insignificant going forward. Regarding the preview features, we have enabled 1 platform level feature and 1 in D365 for Marketing. We will have 1 coming in Sales in early March. We are working on updating the Release notes by bringing additional features when they are ready to preview. Please check the April'19 Release notes change history for changes related to previews.
Hi James - I am reaching out to the Engineering team to find out why you don't see the 9.1 features. I will respond to this thread soon.
Hi Anwesha - The UCI change we released on Feb 1, 2019 is an opt-in preview feature because this will impact the UI and we expect the customers to preview these features before it get's rolled out to the Production. Here is the article that explains how this will be applied. We will have only this opt-in preview feature for April. The remaining features will be no UI Impact features and will be available for preview in Feb/Mar. We are updating them in our Release notes and this section will be updated soon with the features that can be previewed now or in Feb/Mark.
Thanks for the response. Note that we have already enabled the Preview in one of our sandbox instances. The issue is we can’t see the expected ribbon/ sitemap or command bar changes in our application. The platform level feature you are talking about above is not visible at all. Are we missing anything ?

Hi James - When you meant classic interface, are you referring to the Web UI? If yes, the changes are applicable only for the UCI.
Hi Imbrahim - As we mentioned in our Update Policy FAQ document, the updates are backward compatible. Your existing functionalities will work as is. You can test the features that are ready for early access now in your non-production environment (Copy of your production customization). If you notice any of the add-ons or integrations are not working post enabling the previews, you can raise a support ticket.
The updates are backward compatible, so your apps and customizations will continue to work post update. New features with potentially disruptive changes to the user experience will be available to test before the changes get rolled out automatically in the production environments. This means administrators will be able to test first then opt-in to enable these features for their organization.
Dear Marwin - The preview features currently available for testing are targeted to Unified Interface only. From Sales app, there is one new UI impacting feature (Linked-in Sales Navigator) planned for April release targeted Web Client. However, this should be configured by the Admin for the end users. For Customer Service (Hub), all the features are targeted to Unified Interface only. The CS Hub is a solution to be installed by the admin through the admin center.
So, you shouldn't expect any impact to the existing Jscript and plug-ins on the web interface as part of our April 2019 updates and they continue to work as they were working before.
Hi Jenny - The new features mentioned on our release notes - Dynamics 365 April '19 features ready for early access are the only features that will be rolled out automatically and have impact to the end users. The remaining features will be deployed in April and require admin to either install the solution or turn-on the feature
