The features in the Dynamics AX 2012 security development tool have been built into the Finance and Operations web client or added to the developer experience. In AX 2012 the tool had access to both developer and production artifacts as both were on the same environment. Now that we are running as a cloud service, developer artifacts are no longer available in production, resulting in the features appearing in different locations. I’ve outlined some of the most common tasks from the security development tool and where they can be found in Finance and Operations. I hope this helps.

In the web client:

Under System Administration>Security

Security Configuration form:

  • Role, Duty, Privilege creation and editing
  • View Related Security Objects
  • Role based Auditing

Security Diagnostics for Task Recording: Determine access grants for all menu items in a Task Recording (See Security Diagnostics)

Options>Security Diagnostics (On any form when logged in as Admin)

Security Diagnostics:

  • Identifies the security objects granting permission to the form menu item
  • Facilitates adding the menu item to a Role, Duty, Privilege.

From the development environment

Security Object Addins   (Open Role/Duty/Privilege in designer, right click name, Addins)

  • View related objects: Generates a table of all related security objects and their permission levels.
  • View related roles: Generates a table of all roles containing the security object.

Dynamics 365> Addins

  • View related roles for all duties: Same as the view related roles above, but report includes all duties.
  • View related objects and licenses for all roles: Creates an excel workbook with two sheets. One showing the license information for all security objects and one showing the related objects for all security artifacts.
