I am looking for a way to expend the Max value that allows me to enter in a Whole Number data type, field type Simple. Currently the max value that can be entered is 2,147,483,647 and I am not allowed to change it. I am looking to make it so my users can enter 30 characters. Is there a way to do this or do I need to replace this with a new field and use Multiple lines of Text Data Type?
You can edit the Maximum length value when customising a field, so you do not need to create a new field.
If you take a screenshot of the fields customisation screen, I can help you further.
Whole number does not support for maximum length. Go for Multi line or Single Line of Text.
The max value entered for the whole number is the maximum number allowed for that field. For e.g. if you type in 10 then yous can enter any value up until 10 but not 11. The maxium value which you can set for max value is 2,147,483,647. It is not possible add value more than this value.
It appears that you are more looking for the no. of characters in the field which is different then max value. No. of characters is the actual characters which can allowed. This setting is available for text field type (single or Multi). For example ifyou say a field can allow only 3 characters then you can type in "A", "AA", "AAA", but not "AAAA"
As you need to store 30 characters, you cna create a new field and set the character to 30.
Hope this helps.
