Hello Everyone!
In this blog series, I would like to share the outcomes of my experiments with Microsoft Dynamics D365 for the Volumetrics feature available in Warehouse Management. The Warehouse Management module will be set up and configured to showcase the capability of volumetrics available out of the box in the system.
In Part 2 of this blog series, I will focus on Inbound Operations for batch controlled items.
Why Batch Tracking Is Fundamental For Food and Beverage Industry?
Batch number is crucial for food and beverage manufacturing companies, they have to follow the guidelines provided by Food authorities. I have faced the requirement from different customers to record and label the manufacturing date, best before date, expiry date, etc. In case of misprint, the companies may not only face the business loss but also got penalties from the regulatory authorities.
For item batch tracking, D365 is providing an out-of-the-box solution for batch-enabled items, we can use the "FEFO" feature to record the manufacturing date, best before date, and expiry dates.
I will use the First Expiry First(FEFO) out for the batch-enabled items. The feature will be set up in the Item model group. Once the FEFO will be enabled, we need to define the shelf life for the items. Based on the shelf life, the system will automatically propose and record the item expiry for all the batch-enabled items at the time of item registration at the Inbound location. However, the business user needs to enter the batch number manually at the time of item registration.
