Dynamics GP and Modern Authentication

Hello Dynamics GP Community,

With all the action and changes around e-mail functionality recently we wanted to put together a video on Modern Authentication and how it works with Dynamics GP.  We hope that this information will help ease your move from the soon-to-be retired Basic Authentication to Modern Authentication that will be required to be completed by October of this year (as described here).

Here are links to the documentation mentioned in the video:

Hello, I have 2 questions regarding this setup I'm hoping you can help with. At 4:54 in the video it prompts you for a login, then a little while later at about 5:25 you mention you need to login as a global admin for the first time. After the first time login for that setup, what will the user see? Just a login prompt asking for the email address and password for that users account?

Hi Lucas, Thank you for the presentation. Very helpful. One question. Does this also apply if the System Preferences are setup to use the MAPI client. Everything I have seen on this so far suggests this is only if the preferences are set to use Exchange. I have at least a couple of customers who, for various reasons, will not be able to upgrade GP before the end of this year. Since Outlook is handling the Modern Auth, will the customers be able to continue sending the emails out of GP if their System Preferences are set to use the MAPI client?

Hi Lucas, you mention in your presentation that Workflow Notifications will also use the Modern Authentication. Is that only valid for newer versions of Dynamics GP? The reason I am asking is that we have Dynamics GP 2016 R2 and have only configured sending emails via an anonymous connection to via an on-premise Exchange SMTP server. It is very hard to get a clear answer on whether we will be affected by this change or not. I cannot imagine that there will be a security update for Exchange on-premise that will disable anonymous SMTP as there are many services like printers and scanners that would also use that. If you have any thoughts we would appreciate that a lot. Regards, Stig

InnovAsian2, that is a known issue with versions of Dynamics GP prior to the January 2022 hotfix (18.4.1434). There was an invalid loop being run during submission that caused GP to look at all document attachments in the CO00102 table rather than just the ones for the document being submitted and it would eventually timeout after about a minute. You state that you're on 18.4.1436, which is the March Hotfix, so you shouldn't be running into that issue any further. You will probably want to open a support ticket so we can investigate this new issue further.

I am using GP 18.4.1436. I followed video and setup a new app registration and replaced the one in GP. When using PO Approval workflow and using the Submit/Recall, the system will freeze for about 15 minutes and then return error: A save operation on table 'MSGraphEmailTemp' failed converting the retrieved data.

Forget my question... found the answer in the link on the troubleshooting guide. This is indeed a feature that should be pushed to work in GP, and I voted for the suggestion, as many clients don't want the e-mails to be spread across multiple user accounts.

Thanks Lucas for this quick run-through of the Modern Auth setup for GP. I was wondering what kind of problems you got reported in regards of the "Shared Mailboxes" because that's the way I recommend my clients to go for, so e-mails get sent thru a common mailbox.. looks like this could potentially be a problem ?
