Hello Community,
I hope everyone is having a fantastic spring. It is a whopping 50 F today. Which if you have been to North Dakota, you know that means everyone is outside in shorts enjoying the sun.
Recently I’ve seen a quite few cases come in where the option for Template is missing from the Report Destination window. With this option missing you are unable to utilize the Word Template feature. Which honestly is a bummer because Word Templates are cool.

I wanted to take some time today to give some troubleshooting suggestions around this. After you are done reading this blog, I hope you will be able see and select the Template Option in the Report Destination window.
The following is checklist of items that can potentially cause this issue:

  1. Verify that the Template is enabled in Template Configuration (Reports >> Template Configuration)
    * You can use the plus radio button to expand each module to specify which templates you want enabled.

  2. Is the Program Dexterity Shared Components installed or installed for the incorrect version of Microsoft Dynamics GP?
    a. It may be good to even try uninstalling the Dexterity Shared Components and then reinstalling and restart the machine.
    b. This would be under Add/Remove Programs.  (see screenshot below)
    c. After uninstalling, it can be installed with your GP Install Media.

  3. Are the ‘Dynamics.exe’ or ‘Dynamics.exe.config’ files are renamed or are not saved within the GP code folder?
    a. You can check where they are launching from by right clicking on their shortcut for GP and clicking ‘Properties’

*You need to make sure that the dynamics.exe file is not renamed in the folder listed on the shortcut for the ‘Start In’ and ‘Target’ from the screenshot above.
    b. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2016

    * When using Citrix make and utilizing a shared folder for dictionaries, please make sure the Dynamics.exe.config file is listed there as well.
  4. Verify that ReportTemplatesEnabled of globals is set to true.
    6-Watch.jpg
     a. Enable script the Script Debugger option in the Dex.ini file.
The following article gives more information on enabling this option
How to gather a Dexterity Scriptlog in Microsoft Dynamics GP
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3077859/how-to-gather-a-dexterity-scriptlog-in-microsoft-dynamics-
    b. Click Debug
    c. Click Watch
    d. Enter ReportTemplatesEnabled of globals
    e. If it is false, check the dynamics.exe.config file in the GP code folder
    f. If it is renamed, switch it back to how it used to be.

5. Reinstall Microsoft Dynamics GP if steps 1-4 do not cure the issue.

6. Temporarily disable Windows Firewall and/or Antivirus.

*Re-enable these once determined whether they are the cause of the issue or not.
**You may have to create an exception for the path to your GP Code Folder, and the %TEMP% folder to not be scanned during certain hours or to allow certain actions if your Antivirus is the culprit.

Well folks, that’s what I have for you today. I hope you find this information helpful.
If you have anything else, you’d like to see blogged around Word Templates let me know in the comments. I’d love to help.

Until next time,
