The Community Spotlight series is back, and this time we’re shining a well-deserved light on someone who has helped shape the heart of the Dynamics community for over a decade — Bobby Small. If you’ve ever attended a Dynamics User Group (DUG) event and felt that spark of connection, collaboration, or “something special,” there’s a good chance Bobby had a hand in making it happen.
From First Experience to Lifelong Impact
Bobby’s journey with DUG began in 2013, but his first user group experience left an impression that still resonates today. He describes it as walking into “Willy Wonka” — a room filled with knowledge, ideas, and people eager to share.
Since then, Bobby has dedicated himself to giving others that same experience. From helping organize events across the country (and now globally) to supporting 64+ local user groups that meet year-round, his impact is felt far and wide.
A Champion of Connection
What truly sets Bobby apart isn’t just what he builds — it’s how he brings people together. In 2024, he noticed a powerful shift in how community events evolved. Speakers moved from talking at audiences to engaging with them. What used to be lectures became something more dynamic: “An hour of just lecture turned into an hour of community think.”
For Bobby, that shift represents the essence of what community is all about. While individual expertise matters, he believes the real magic happens when people collaborate: “I’ve done a lot of things and I’m pretty smart, but at the end of the day, I’m not as smart collectively as the entire room.”
Building More Than Events — Building Relationships
Today, as Community Strategy Director at DUG, Bobby continues to do what he loves most: creating real connections in real time that lead to lifelong relationships. His approach blends energy, creativity, and a unique ability he calls “noodling” — thinking through challenges collaboratively to uncover better solutions. With a background spanning IT, communication, marketing, business analysis, and project management, he brings both versatility and heart to everything he touches.
But at the core of it all is a simple, powerful belief:
