When working with Marketing solutions which provide mass email capabilities, it could be required that customers would want to test various parts of their logic or the end to end processes implemented. For this purpose, using test email accounts is often used but that can become problematic when trying to test at high volumes as it could mean creating and managing a high number of mailboxes. Using email addresses and domains that don’t exist can create issues in the testing as emails would generate errors which makes it hard to confirm the logic end to end.
A way around these limitations, has been the use of disposable email address services, for example yopmail.com. As advertised, these email addresses are provided with a limited lifespan and are meant to “protect” the real email addresses.
However, with Dynamics 365 Marketing, in order to protect the reputation of service, Microsoft takes extra steps to try and ensure emails are only sent to real email addresses. For this reason, known disposable email providers are automatically dropped from email communications. This will generally not impact production usage but could create confusion during the testing cycles of Dynamics 365 Marketing projects as emails will appeared as being in a suppression list.
The testing alternative is to use email addresses that use test.com as their domain.
These emails will also not get delivered but they will appear as Sent and Delivered in the marketing insights, thus providing a better experience of the end-to-end cycle from the Dynamics 365 Marketing point of view.
At the time of writing of this blog, these are the domains which are getting supressed.
