Use of Configuration Mode in NAV
Introduction:
We all know about how to assign different Role Centers to Users based on their requirement. Any change made to the Role Center is applier to all Users who are assigned to them.
Sometimes we do require to make minor changes to only a particular user like hiding certain home icons or adding certain pages to the Role Center. This becomes a bit tedious through the NAV Development Environment….
but we can achieve this through configuration mode.
Configuration mode is a setting in Microsoft Dynamics NAV that allows you to customize the user interface (UI) for a role. It will enable an Administrator or Super User to customize a profile themselves and then assign it to different users
Pre-requisites:
- Microsoft Dynamics NAV
- Command Prompt (cmd)
Steps:
In the below example I’ll be adding page Item List to the Home Items of User Profile “Purchasing Agent”
- Launch Command prompt
- Change the path toC:\>cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\110\RoleTailored Client
- Enter the Profile path Microsoft.Dynamics.Nav.Client.exe -configure -profile:”PURCHASE MANAGER – CUSTOMISED”

4. Once you enter the Profile path, NAV RTC will launch , enter the credential of user having super permission.

5. NAV will launch in Configuration mode. Right click on the Home tab at the left hand corner and click on Customise navigation pane

6. Click on Add, Select the page you want to Insert and click on OK

7. Page in my case Items is added to the Home Items of Role center

Happy Weekend!
