D365 Business Central - New Field Posting Preview Type on General Ledger Setup

Microsoft added lot of new features in latest version of business central that is Business Central Wave 2 2021 a.k.a BC 19.

Microsoft has also the Preview Posting feature in BC 19 by giving the “Preview Posting Type” option on General Ledger Setup.

Preview Posting is one of the most important feature in D365 Business Central, when posting journals or documents with a large number of entries, accountants want to make sure that the posting will be correct beforehand. Previewing the posting helps prevent the need for corrections, making accountants more productive.

Now User can enable the new way of showing Posting Preview by choosing Extended in the Posting Preview Type field on the General Ledger Setup page.

When the extended posting preview is turned on, you can choose to preview a posting using the Preview Posting action (or the Ctrl+Alt+F9 keyboard shortcut)—for example, on a payment journal. On the Posting Preview page, you can choose Show Hierarchical View to group the entries.

Partners can easily extend the posting preview either by adding types of ledger entries that are relevant for their industry, or by modifying the way entries are grouped.

In below steps, we will discuss how we can setup the “Preview Posting Type” and how it works-

Step 1: Go to “General Ledger Setup” and Set “Preview Posting Type” to Standard.

Step 2: Now Go to any Sales Order and then Click on “Preview Posting” –

Step 3: Once Preview posting is done, you can see the standard view of Preview Posting. It means the Preview posting will work in the same way as it was working in previous version of Business Central.

Step 4: Now again Go to “General Ledger Setup” and Set “Preview Posting Type” to Extended.

Step 5: Now Go to any Sales Order and then Click on “Preview Posting” –

Step 6: Once Preview posting is done, you can see the Extended View of Preview Posting, that contains 3 Groups -

G/L Entries: It shows all records GL Entry Table.

VAT Entries: It shows all records from VAT Entry table.

Related Entries: All the rest of the ledgers, including extension or Custom Entries.

Show Hierarchical View is a toggle on how G/L entries and VAT entries in the posting preview weather grouped by Account No.(if Hierarchical View is on) or as a list (if Hierarchical View is off).
