Dynamics 365 Project Service Automation: Video blog covering Project Contract

apa Profile Picture apa 8,280

Tested on:
Dynamics 365 version 9.0
Project Service Automation solution version 2.1.0.30

Project Contract is an important part of a sales cycle in Dynamics 365 Project Service Automation as it defines the work that is done on a project. There is quite a bit of functionality around Project Contract so I have made a video covering its different attributes:

  • Converting a Quote to Project Contract
  • Creating a new Project Contract unrelated to a Quote
  • Project Contract form and its sections
  • Contract Lines and Contract Line Details
  • Billing Methods: Time and Material, Fixed Price
  • Including Time, Expense and Fee on Contract Lines
  • Import from Project Estimation
  • Invoice Schedule and Periodic Milestones
  • Confirming a Project Contract
  • Contract Actuals

I hope this video helps you take more out of PSA and clarifies how Project Contract functions.

John you are correct. When a contract is confirmed the field does lock. However when you refresh your browser (or close the record and reopen it) you can see that the "Contract Status Reason" is again editable.

Hi Antti. Thanks for the reply. In the various environments that I tested this (including the most recent one, with the new Dynamics 365 UI), after you CONFIRM the CONTRACT in the ribbon, the "Contract Status Reason" field changes from Draft to Confirmed and gets locked.

Can you please check and confirm that you are getting different results? Thanks.

Hi John. Thanks for the feedback. When on the out of the box form, there is an option set called "Contract Status Reason" near the bottom of the "Summary" section. You can select "Draft" and the contract will reopen. It is a little different from, for example, the Case entity where you can reactivate a case directly from the ribbon.

    Hello Antti. Helpful video, thanks.

On 3:09, you said that you can change the Contract Status back to draft, after you CONFIRM it in the ribbon. I don't think that is possible but please let me know otherwise, thanks.
