MR and publishing reports to SharePoint Online
Hi Everyone,
MR can publish reports to SharePoint, but what about SharePoint Online (SharePoint 365)? If you try to publish a report to SharePoint Online, you’ll get a message like this: “Unable to create the related report link in: ‘https://server.sharepoint.com/sites/…’”
MR cannot publish reports links to SharePoint Online (SharePoint 365). MR can publish report links to older on-prem versions of SharePoint. The method it uses to do this however does not exist with SharePoint Online, so the feature does not work with that version of Office.
One thing to note is that you can use report links without SharePoint. Many people create shortcut links in a shared folder somewhere on the network. Here is how they work:
- Start the MR Report Viewer application.
- Open a report from the Report Library.
- Click the Copy Link button.
- You can then paste that link into a web browser to open that report. Alternatively, you can create a shortcut with that link and users can click it to open the report. This is the same type of link that MR publishes to SharePoint on-prem.
This link will always open the most recent copy of the report so once you create the link, you would never need to change it. For this process to work, you must be on the same domain and internal network as the MR services. The way the link works is it connects to the MR services which validates your Windows active directory account. If you have been granted access to view reports in MR, the report will be displayed in your web browser (MR Web Viewer). Depending on the browser, you will likely be prompted to enter your domain credentials.

MR and publishing reports to SharePoint OnlineIf the report is edited, will the original link from Report Viewer still bring up the most recent copy of the report? In my testing, that isn't the case.
