I am trying to use the new Word template feature to create quotes.
Some content control fields do not show the same data as the fields in the actual German 2016 on-premise CRM, among these are:
1. The quote field "exchangerate" is always 10.000.000.000,00000000002. If I define a quantity of "1" for a quote (product) field, the word content is 10.000.000.000. I already set the precision of the data field to zero.
3. The quote (product) field "productdescription" is empty, although there is description text for all quote (product) elements defined. I already tried to adjust for multi-line feed in word.
As suggested in first blogs introducing this new feature, I always inserted plain text content control items. In general, is there a way to post-process or format the content control items?
Thank you for every hint.
Same problem here, on a French installation.
I guess that's just a problem with decimal separators badly interpreted
I cannot understand why this works fine for opportunity amounts, but quantities are going out wrong.
Thanks for your reply and confirming.
Is the product description always empty for you, as well?
Sadly, these issues make the new templates simply useless for generating quotes/invoices etc.
I confirm I also have the issue with the description field. The only field i can retrieve is the ProductIdName.
As for the numbers, i checked in the SQL table.
Quantities are stored with a dot: 1.0000000000
Amounts are stored with a comma: 3200,00
Obviously that's the root cause, now they are standard 'decimal' and 'currency' fields from the CRM, I don't see why this is not working yet.
I think I have an answer at last :)
The issue with the decimal is indeed related to the localization on the server: mine was installed in French, I guess yours is in german, and in both cases I assume Word is gathering the decimal separator from the regional settings.
If you change to a server in english the problem is solved. I also tried to keep my french server but only change the regional settings of the service account, it works as well :)
(you have to log on the server as the account that runs the CRM, update the settings and restart the CRM)
As for the description, the description field is only filled-in for Write-In products, it is not a lookup to an existing product description.
Therefore if you want to gather your product description, you need to add a custom field on the opportunity_product and add a calculation that will gather it from the product table.
Hopefully a future release will allow to go through more than one relationship, but today that's not possible so adding a custom field is the only solution.
Thank you for tracing this issue and the great help.
Can you give a brief explanation what you mean with "service account that runs the CRM" and where/how to log on?
Do you refer to the Windows Services user that runs the Sandbox Service or CrmAsyncService? Or do you mean the user "SYSTEM" that is running my System Job? How can I login as such a user?
I mean the service account that runs the CRM web app (CRMAppPool.)
There is no windows service for that, but it should be the same as the one running the windows service 'microsoft dynamics CRM unzip service'.
I just used this account to log to the webserver, to change the regional settings associated to it.
I have experienced the same with our crm 2016 and found a workaround for it. Simply create a text field and a workflow that copies the value from the decimal field to the text field and use the text field in the word template. This have worked for us.
Hope this works
I have created a Word document with ALL fields from the Quote entity and (most) of the fields from the related entities. I use this to see where the entered data that I would like to "merge" into my document is kept. ("Is it Quoteid or Quotenumber, I want to put in here?....")
Here I can see that for existing procucts I need the Productidname and for the Write in products I need the Productdescription.
I upload it as a template and then use the template on a quote - then I use it a reference tool to see which XML fields I should put into the real Quote template.
I guess this makes most sense for non-English base language users.
If you contact me I can send a copy of this document. (It is 14 pages of XML fields - and still a work in progress.)
We had the exact same problem with a Quantity (decimal) field. The workaround suggested by Kenneth could not be applied to our situation because the field is on Opportunity Product and we can't run a workflow on this entity.
What we ended up doing is this: www.summitgroupsoftware.com/.../how-format-auto-number-decimal-field-microsoft-dynamics-crm-2015
Except we used a first text calculated field to convert the Quantity to text.
The we added another text calculated value to trim the zeros... I don't like this fix but it will have to do for now.
Use ~f=#,##0.00 expression in you document template with decimal field.
Hope it helps.
Could you please explain how you do this? I have put my field as a bookmark and then tried to add a formula using the bookmark and selecting a format but it is being ignored.
