I need to move our CRM 2013 SP1 install from an older VM running Windows Server 2008 R2 to a newer VM running Windows Server 2012 R2.
The database is on separate server and that is not changing.
What is the recommended way to do this please?
You may follow this documentation which talks about moving Dynamics CRM server deployments.
Move the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server or one of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server roles. However, leave the SQL Server and the SQL Server Reporting Services server intact ::
Please mark my comment as answered if this helps.
Does that apply to CRM 2013 as well?
Yes, John. In fact, I will have to follow the same for Dynamics 365 on premises version 9 as well. :-)
Thanks. And to clarify, I do not have to do any custom package export and import stuff, correct?
Finally going forward with this and I have run into a major problem.
I am getting 2 errors that are preventing the install:
1) The product key is not compatible with the installed version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
Doing research that appears to be a known problem and the "answer" is to include RU2 during the install.
2) The specified database has a later version
Doing research that appears to happen when moving to a new server and using the existing database and the "answer" is to include SP1, SP1_RU3, SP1_RU4 and SP1_RU5 in the installation.
The problem is that is not working. I have extracted RU2, SP1, SP1_RU3, SP1_RU4 and SPI_RU5 and copied those folders into the installation folder \Server\amd64\update\ but it does not use them.
So I need to figure out how to slipstream those updates into the install folder so that when I run \Server\amd64\SetupServer.exe it will use the updates as well.
Any ideas/suggestions are welcome.
OK I was able to get the install to work.
I had to create a config.xml file, add the RU2, SP1 and SP1_RU5 msp file locations, and run the install from an elevated command prompt like this:
path\ServerSetup.exe /config path\config.xml
