Inquiries and report - lookups

Posted on by 57
In D365FO if someone is looking for a sales order let's 1234 and now if I want to move up/down + - to see and search the next one or previous one OR page up / page down, there is no option to do that unless I exit from 1234 and either filter the next one I am looking for which will kill purpose of quick search and take forever and defeats the purpose of using intelligence. Unless I don't how to look or perform a search.

I have not seen any applications which won't provide a smart search capability to have an efficient way of working even the products MS has deprecated and EOL had all this provision of quick search & viewing the information

    Hi Syrus,

Some Microsoft employees do read questions on these forums. Note that some of them are hired to help answer questions, but more from a support point of view. Several years ago, some Microsoft program managers also used the forum to gather feedback and provide some input. I haven't noticed them around for a long time on the Dynamics 365 Finance & SCM forums.

If you can help us understand what exact steps you perform for "looking for a sales order", we can check if a filter is applied. When I open e.g. the All sales orders page and then select one order and open the details, the CTRL + arrow up or down is working. In case I use the filter field or a grid column search, then a filter has been applied restricting me with the number of records to navigate through. When you remove the filter, also the focus on the current record will be lost, and then another sales order will be selected. If this is your scenario, then you hit a limitation of the Dynamics 365 F&O navigation options.

Note that the focus is also important. In case a record in the lines grid has the focus, the shortcut commands will browse through the line records. When you click on one of the header fields, then the focus is on the data source of the sales order headers.

Let us know your concerns in case this is not exactly the answer you are looking for.

Thank you, all Volunteers, me too.
Over the years (long) I have also been a user of Microsoft's ERPs and from time to time express my feedback on forums like this and others connected directly to Microsoft. While I have seen MS staff reading these forums and have replied to me as well.

My intention for posting these questions here was also to benefit the community and drawing some attention of Microsoft, also to see if someone has already addressed this very simple issue (I think) and usually provided to provide an efficiency while searching the data.
Anyhow that CTRL+ down/up arrow does not work either.

... but we need to understand the particular scenario to offer relevant answers. And we ask our questions to clarify the situation.

Thank you, Andre.  No rudeness was intended. Only trying to help. :)

    Hi Syrus,

When I read the replies from both Martin and Frank, I don't consider them as rude replies. Maybe the tone is a bit direct. Note that we are all volunteers trying to help others by answering questions in our spare time. When I read your initial question, then like Martin I wonder what steps were taken for looking for a sales order. For that reason, I also don't exactly understand the question.

Are you aware of the navigation shortcuts like CTRL + arrow up and CTRL + arrow down? If not, you can try these. If you are familiar with these shortcuts, or it is not working, then most likely a filter was applied where only one record remained as the result set.

    Very rude replies.
I don't I have made an unjustified statement. All I said that why there is no option for pulling/viewing the data up/down, page up /page down mode or if I want to perform my search in an order.

Is that a federal offense to ask a question on this community site.

Microsoft know that it has implemented this feature in all of its applications like Dynamics GP.

Why would I filter/search a record and then to look for the next record I have to type it again in the age of AI. I know what Frank is referring to and I have seen that FILTER but it is a convenience.

I don't care much either and just asked which I won't if community is taking it personally

See the little button?  That opens the filter pane on the left, allowing you to scroll through and view the entire list.  This is a relatively new feature.  What version are you on?

What exactly do you mean by "looking for a sales order let's 1234"? That you apply a filter to the data source to show just SO 1234 (and therefore there is no "next" order meeting the criteria)?
