Dimension Set ID in Configuration Packages

Hi:
 
In order to use Dimension-based columns in my Configuration Package, I had to have the Dimension Set ID field in the package's mapping turned on along with a column within my file.
 
The Dimension Set ID in my column didn't have any values.
 
But, my point is that any errors that I had upon trying the import the first time went way once I included the Dimension Set ID field and column.
 
Why?
