Migration - Transfer of closing balance from AX 2012 to d365 F&O as an opening balance

Posted on by 2
Hi Everyone,

We're currently working on one of the migration projects from AX 2012 to D365 F&O, which is also my first time.

However, I don't have any exact knowledge of how to transfer the closing balances of Ax 2012 to D365 as an opening balance. So, looking for detailed knowledge.

Also, wanted to know, during the transfer, do we have to generate the closing balance for all the mentioned financial dimension sets?

It would be really great if anyone can help on it or provide the link for detailed knowledge.

Thank you

    Hi,
In addition to the provided feedback, please consider Chart of Accounts (COT) and financial dimensions on the exported year-end balance. If you use the same COT and financial dimension values in D365FO as in AX, there will be no issue. If not, you will need to create a mapping table to properly map the exported balance from AX with the correct COT and financial dimensions for import into D365FO.

Hello, you'll need to export the year end balances for all accounts from AX, then import them using Data Management Framework (DMF) in D365FO.  For instance, you would export balances as of 12/31/2023 from AX, then import those balances and post them as on 12/31/2023 in D365FO.  Then, you close the year in D365FO, which creates your 2024 opening balances.

As Ramit said whether you export all financial dimension-level detail is up to the business and their reporting requirements.  I would think they'd want all financial dimension detail as well.

    Hi,

I am not familier with the AX anymore since it has been many years I have not touched, however to transfer OB from any system, you need to upload via data management/excel add-in D365, whether to take the Financial dimension wise OB or not, this is upto the organization and their MIS reporting.

Example- if the current structure of the org is they maintain reporting PL+ CC+ DP+ BU then you need to take the balance based on these financial dimensions.
