How to make Notes timeline filter persist after switching tabs (CRM)?

We are facing an issue in the Case form Notes timeline.

When users apply a filter (e.g., “Notes only”) in the timeline, the filter works correctly at first. However, when they navigate away from the Case (for example to Home or another tab) and then return, the timeline resets and shows all activities instead of keeping the Notes-only filter.

This also affects pinned notes - users sometimes need to manually refresh to restore the correct view.

Expected behavior:

Notes timeline filter should persist after navigating away and back to the record
Pinned notes should remain pinned
View should stay consistent without manual refresh

Observed behavior:

Filter resets to default (shows all activities)
Notes-only view is lost after navigation
UI state is not retained

Has anyone implemented a solution to persist timeline filter state across navigation?

Is there a supported way (configuration / form customisation / JS / PCF control) to keep the filter applied?

Any guidance or best practices would be appreciated.

The Timeline filter reset behavior is generally considered:
    By Design
because the Timeline control does not currently persist UI state across navigation.

There is no supported way today to keep the Notes-only filter applied after leaving and returning to the Case record.

For organizations that require a persistent Notes experience, I would recommend:
    Dedicated Notes Subgrid
              or
    Custom Page / PCF Solution
rather than relying on Timeline filters.

For the pinned notes refresh issue, if it is a recent change or affects multiple users and environments, I would also recommend opening a Microsoft Support ticket,

as it may be related to a Timeline rendering regression.
