Personalizations not "sticking"

Posted on by 173
A user came to me this morning and said that some of his personalizations he'd made a long time ago, were suddenly gone this morning, and reverted back to the default.  With some testing we have found that some personalizations are simply not sticking -- some field movements or action movements appear to be working when we personalize, but then when we go back to the page they've reverted to the defaults. It is not happening with all fields/actions, but is happening consistently with the same fields/actions for different users. Any ideas?

You can investigate why personalizations aren’t "sticking" by following these steps:

    • Go to the user settings page.
    • Open the user's card.
    • Click on "Personalized Pages."
    • Select "Troubleshoot."
    • In the Personalized Pages window, check the Health column for any issues or warnings. If there is an issue, use the Detected Issues FastTab to identify why the personalization changes aren't being saved.

Every time a personalization was not sticking for me, I had an error in the above page.

We are encountering the same issue.  It happened after patch Tuesday from Microsoft on the 10th.  It's really odd.  There are certain fields that are "stuck" there for everyone.  Even if they personalize their page, it reverts back.  The only thing I found is if I go into the profile and customize the pages, they will stay, but that would be for everyone under that profile.  It's a little frustrating.  Hopefully in the next update it will be fixed

I've also seen personalization wiped out due to upgrade. Out of box, it won't disappear on its own. Could there be any customization affecting the behavior?

Hi , it seems that some personalizations are not being saved and are reverting to default settings. This might be due to a version update, so check if there have been any recent updates. If you’re using the cloud version, try clearing all personalizations and reapplying them. For On-Premises versions, consider reinstalling the client. gdrenteria shared some useful links: General Journal Personalization Not Saving and How to view and delete user page personalizations. If none of these solutions work, contact Microsoft support. Hope this helps!

I have encountered the situation where Personalizations were lost due to version upgrades before, but I have not encountered this in the latest version.
And if this is a cloud version, it is recommended to clear all Personalizations and try again. If it is an On-Pre version, it is recommended to reinstall the client and try again.

Hope this can give you some hints.
    Thanks
