Is there a way to customize the popup that displays when you select "Insert Template" on the email form?

We want to default the Field Name to "Regarding" based on the app it is being accessed from.

    Hi,

Unfortunately, there is no supported out-of-the-box way to customize the "Select Record" dialog that appears when clicking Insert Template on an email form.

The Field Name options, such as To and Regarding, are determined by the standard Dynamics 365 email template functionality. Currently, there is no supported configuration that allows you to set a default value such as Regarding, especially based on the model-driven app from which the email is opened.

For example, the following type of configuration is not available out of the box:

    • App A → Default Field Name = Regarding
    • App B → Default Field Name = To
    • App C → Show the Select Record dialog

There is a system-level option related to skipping the Select Record dialog, which may be useful depending on your scenario. However, this setting applies at the environment/system level and cannot be configured differently for individual apps.

If the requirement is specifically to always use Regarding when the user accesses the email from a particular app, you would likely need a custom implementation. For example, you could create a custom command/button for template insertion and implement custom logic to use the Regarding record as the template context.

    So, in summary:

    • Defaulting the standard popup to "Regarding" per app: Not supported out of the box.
    • Skipping the Select Record dialog globally: Possible through system settings, depending on the required behavior.
    • Different behavior based on the app: Requires customization/custom implementation.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you. I understand that it is not recommended to update the OOB modal popup, but is it even possible to access MSFT .js or apply different .js to it?

Would I use dev tools in chrome to find the pop up attribute name, run code on load or click of a button and try to manipulate the pop up? If thats the case, It could be as easy as sorting the DDL values alphabetically so regarding displays by default.

Ive created numerous web resources on forms and buttons, but never for anything owned by MSFT.  @Syed Aqib Raza
