Best practice - CSV into a Segment

Hi,

I am looking for the best way to migrate multiple historic contact lists from an existing Marketing Automation Platform into Customer Insights Journeys, in order to keep historic data on form submissions.

Ideally these would be held in a Segment as a Static Snapshot so as to reference them in future sends. I have seen a way of doing this by uploading a list into the Dataverse with a field for 'upload purpose', however as this field would be over-written for any contact in more than one list, it would mean only working on a single list at a time.

What would be the best approach for this to allow the team to upload multiple static lists into segments as we migrate our data over?

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Phil

Tag Contacts with Unique List Identifiers
    1. Add a multi-value-friendly field in Dataverse:
      • Create a custom many-to-many relationship between Contact and a new "Contact List" entity, or
      • Create a multi-select choice column, or
      • Use a text field that stores a list ID or name (if lists are mutually exclusive per contact).
    2. Import each list with a unique list identifier:
      • During import, associate each contact with the corresponding list (either via relationship or tagging).
    3. Create a static segment for each list:
      • Use a Dataverse segment query like:
        "Contact List contains [List A]"
        or
        "Tag field equals 'List A'"
    4. This allows multiple contacts to belong to multiple lists without overwriting each other.

    That's very useful.
