Hello Everyone,

I have a background in AX 2012 and D365, having worked on support projects for 2 years. During the pandemic, I transitioned to a team lead role in another field. Now, I'm eager to rekindle my career in D365 and have begun immersing myself in learning through hands-on experience on VMs via MSLearn.

I would greatly appreciate any expert advice and insights from your wealth of experiences. Your guidance will be instrumental in shaping my career path ahead. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi,
We are very happy that you chose D365 again. As we know, AX has been updated to D365 FO. You can follow the official documentation of FO to learn about version updates and the release of new features. Additionally, you can deploy your environment to facilitate your practice. Or you can use Microsoft's provided lab for learning, and this will give you VM for to experience on hand. But this will only last for about 2 hours. For D365 FO, there are also relevant certifications. For example, Financial Function Consultant Assistant, Supply Chain Management Function Consultant Assistant, etc. These certifications can help you put your skills and knowledge to the test. This is a general suggestion for you to return to D365. If you have any specific questions during the learning process, you can also post your questions in the forum. There are many experienced experts in the forum who will help you.

F&O is still almost the same as three years ago. The most significant changes (in my opinion) are around Power Platform. Things like business events, dual-write, virtual entities, transition to Power Platform admin center and such.

Is your role technical or functional?

There are alot of certificates that u can take, check this link

Also what is mainly different between D365FO and AX12 is the development environment which is VS, the coding as now we use extensions and integrations (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/data-entities/integration-overview) in addition to what Martin mentioned.

As Martin explained, F&O is much the same as it was 3 years ago, albeit with new/enhanced features. From my perspective, which is Finance functional, the most consequential updates are around A/P Automation, Business Performance Analytics, the addition of the Asset leasing, and Asset management modules. You can also review the Feature management module to gain insight into new features. Best wishes to you!
