Return to standard for a particular design on an customized SSRS report

How can we revert to standard for a particular design on a customized SSRS report, while stil keeping other designs?
I don’t just want to delete the layer of the complete report, because I still want to keep other customized design nodes intact.
I would like to remove the var layer on for instance the standard design node called ‘Report’, but still keep the var layer on the other country-specific designs and in that way revert the standard node Report to standard, to be able to customized it from scratch again.

Thanks

    1. Whether we delete or keep design of other layer, at runtime, customization of highest layer such as USR will take priority. So, idea of layers should be neglected.

    2. If you have a different design in each legal entity, you can build a new design for each legal entity. And by setting design in print management, automatically system will run your needed design as per legal entity.

    3. If you have requirement of different designs in same legal entity, based on any condition such as CountryCode or any other condition, you need to customize Controller class.

So, let’s first define, what is your requirement

    1. Each Company/Legal Entity has only  1 design, which differs from other companies.

      Or

    2. Each legal entity can have N different designs. Here N means any number of designs.

Based on your requirement #1 or #2, there is solution

In VS with a SSRS design opened in design mode, you can press Ctrl+f (find) and enter some text to search for. For instance “Ver”

This opens the design as text in a new tab page.

From here you can edit, copy and paste all you want – with the risk of really messing the design up.

To revert a particular design back to it's original standard state then becomes a matter of copy paste.

If you are working with source control: Deleted the report, making it checked out for deletion.

This removes the var layer on the report.

Then opened, what now is the standard version of the report in VS and open the report design you want to copy from. For instance ‘Report’.

Do the “Ctrl+f”-trick to the show design as text.

Copy it all to NotePad. (For some unknown reason this isn’t the same as ‘Save as’.)

Undo check out on report and open the report with var layer. Open a design.

Do the “Ctrl+f”-trick again and paste in from NotePAd.

Afterwards, I think you need to do a refresh on the datasets in VS.

    Build.

    Deploy.

    Run it.
