Integration. Push categories into D365 as journal.

Hi All,
I am currently working on an ISV integration that transfers data into D365 as journals. This data includes expenses and maintenance details. For expenses, we track lease and insurance, while for maintenance, we track oil changes and inspections.
How can I effectively capture this information through a journal whether it's an AP invoice journal or a project expense journal? Additionally, can I utilize categories within the journal? After the journals are posted, I need to be able to filter the data by maintenance and by oil change or by inspection.
How do I accomplish this?  What are my options? Thanks so much!

    Hello,

To post categories in a journal, you need to use the Project module.
D365FO has dedicated a module for this (Asset Management), and several ISVs (such as Annata) offer solutions for maintenance and work orders.
The standard approach is: create a project and post expenses via the Project expense journal.

For Accounts Payable, you cannot use categories directly in the invoice journal, but you can do so indirectly through purchases: map the category to an item and link the Purchase Order to the project (typically created from the project itself).

Hence, for our integration you can use the project expense journal or the PO (up to you).
    Hope this helps.

    Good luck!
    Giorgio

    Hi,

What exact ISV are you using and in what type of journals are in use? Only the two you mentioned or more? Are you using the Project and Accounting module? What exact data is provided in the journals by the integration? Is this having details about your "category"?
Have you checked with your ISV company the possibilities?
