Distribution Requirements Planning

Greetings All,

We are currently implementing AX 2012.  We have several warehouses around the globe, and our inside sales department typically ships product to our customers from their preferred (default) warehouse.  However, if we cannot meet the customer's requested date from their default warehouse, and if we have inventory on-hand in other warehouses, our CSR's would then like to ship directly from the warehouse that is nearest the customer.  Said differently, we would like to be able to define a hierarchy of warehouses that AX can use to determine the fastest way to get product to a customer based upon their distance from the warehouses.  Some have referred to this as Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP), but I am not sure if this is the correct term.

We have high sales volumes, so this needs to be a fast and efficient process.  It is not feasible to have our CSR's researching (intercompany) on-hand inventory and manually determining the best (fastest) method for delivery for each sales order line.  The ship complete option will also have an impact upon this logic.

What do you suggest?  Is AX capable of doing this?  How?

Thank you,

Chris Italiano

    Hello:

We have the same requirement.   Did you come up with a solution - we are contemplating a custom screen that would be used after all the order lines are entered that would indicated alternative stock locations.

    Best regards, Ken

    Dear Ken,

We did not find a solution to this problem.  Please keep me informed if you find one.

    Sincerely,

In my opinion you would need to modify the system to achieve what you want to ensure a quick user friendly interface at the front end, essentially aligning customer to a base depot and the related processing if further investigation is required.
