Dynamics SL 6.5 Question

Posted on by 85
Due to a planned implementation of a change from 3 digits to 4 digits in our sub-account numbers residing in the general ledger, we need to know if we add a zero to the end of the sub-account number (currently 3 digits) making it 4 digits is it possible to keep all history of that account intact or does it become a "new" account thus losing all history and detail?

I will second the recommendation of Laura for Keychange or the tools.

Keychange has all kinds of nice additional features, like "merging" vendors (when you accidentally create a new vendor when a vendor ID alread exists for that vendor)

Side note:  You WILL have to change each line in FRx reports (rows, columns, trees) that refers to a subaccount, no matter what route you take.  Not usually too hard if you copy to Excel and do it there and paste back.

    Hello,

There are several tools available which allow you to change your key fields.  One is KeyChange by NexVue and another is the Microsoft Tools Library.  Otherwise, adding a new subaccount with 4 characters will create a new unrelated subaccount, and you won't be able to join the history.
