Automatic Confirmed Ship Date? Too much to ask for?!

Posted on by

This is a major issue, upon purchasing Dynamics 365, which we chose for the production module, we understood from Microsoft Partners that the confirmed ship date on sales orders are added after a production batch order is run so material availability and resources are calculated. Now we discover that the confirmed ship date is MANUALLY ENTERED!!!

This means that a person with permission can overlook the system, throw away years of programming and disregard the entire master planning module and decide the Confirmed Ship Date regardless of the factories production capabilities, resource availability, and most importantly material availability.

If anyone knows how to fix this issue and automatically have a sales orders confirmed ship date show up after running the master planning schedule, please let us know and save whatever respect we have left for this module because so far we are better off using excel.

    Hi Ahmed,

I can fully understand your concern here.

I was only mentioning that there is no update on the sales order header. To be honest, I cannot recall all logic used on the lines in relation with production or reservations. So, I'm not saying there isn't a link on line level. On the sales order lines, there is an option to calculate the ship date and perform a ATP or CTP based on certain settings. The master planning is an additional tool for getting alerts on impossible delivery dates.

Maybe another volunteer knows the exact features about linking and date validations. Otherwise, it would require some reading in documentation or even reverse-engineering when the delivery date fields are set using x++ logic.

Hello Andre, does this mean a sales man can enter a confirmed ship date the factory cannot fulfill and the sales order will go through??

We currently use MS Access to manage this area and upon creating the sales order, the sales man goes into the "delivery schedule" and books the next available slot for that type of kitchen.

Are you trying to tell me there is no link between the production and sales module concerning the ship date except if the delivery is delayed?!

    Hi Ahmed,

To be honest, the date on the order header will never be updated by a production order. This is because a production order can fulfill an individual sales order line. Other sales lines can have a different confirmed delivery date.

Not sure if on line level it will be updated (never checked myself). So, in my opinion, a production order should not update header information.

Master planning can work with action messages to indicate that there would be a delay in delivery if the production order is not completed in time.
