Accounts payable invoice journal is advancing posting date II

Posted on by 13
Hello,

10.0.40 (10.0.1935.92)  - But this issue was seen in previous versions and called out on this post 2 years ago:  https://community.dynamics.com/forums/thread/details/?threadid=8a59d7d6-832c-47e4-b712-1ee2534ea402

We are having an intermittent issue posting vendor invoice journals to a prior period.

EG: August month end
- A journal was posted(transacted) on 09/05/2024
- The user defined posting date was 08/31/2024
- After posting the posting date automatically changed to 09/01/2024

IF the prior period was closed or on hold we would expect this behavior as we have defined it in the AP Parameters. However, the prior period was open and several other journals posted minutes apart did not have the same issue. We saw the same issue for July month end on a very small subset of journals.

Couple Things:
- We do have the system configured to advance to the next period automatically if the prior period we are trying to post to is closed or on hold.
- Both periods are open (Previous and current)
- We have seen this twice in the last couple on months
- We see this intermittently, some journals post with the correct dates (prior period) and considerably less show this behavior.
- I've ruled out user error
-Users are not posting in batch

I have a suspicion that other user activity, like running the trial balance, will momentarily put the period on hold. If another user is posting at the same moment in the same AOS it could trigger the date advancing logic but I have not been able to replicate it.

Thank you Jonas, Reviewing the posting logic may be the next step. I have seen two other threads with this issue and no one has cracked this nut yet. :)

Thank you, this is odd and interesting indeed...

No parameters really comes to mind, I'll try to sleep on it.
I'll try to monitor the thread. If all else fails I'll look at the posting logic.

@Jonas Feddersen Melgaard - This value is set to no. To my reading that should allow the AP user to specify the posting date on the journal.

Agreed F&O should never put a period on hold by itself.

It’s not necessarily "blocking" the posting, the journal is still posting but it is keying into the posting date logic for closed or on hold periods.

It seems important that several journals can be posted in a matter of minutes and one can be impacted and the others not.

    Hi Josh,

I'm on 10.0.41, so it's not an exact scenario.
F&O should never put a period on hold by itself - But it might block postings or impact performance significantly.

Can you check this for me? This is one of the parameters that might give you issues, at least in my preview version.
