Different names for a particular released product in different companies

Hi, anyone thought of a good solution to support different names for a particular released product in two different companies? A customer wants to use different names for two subsidiaries based on local market profiling. If the subsidiaries were in differenct countries, the translation feature could be used, but since the subsidiaries are in the same country that's not an option, and unfortunately (in this case) EcoResProduct and EcoResProductTranslation are global tables.

    Hi Johan,

    I wonder why the name should be different as it is the same product. Why should these subsidiaries have other product names? Is it caused by branding? I'm pretty sure you will have a business reason.

    You can consider having customer item descritpions (or vendor item descriptions). This is a bit nasty to setup. You can use a group for less setup, but not all customers (or vendors) at once.

    Yes, as you've guessed the main reason is branding. The subsidiaries also have different customers types, e.g. professional users and hobby users, which require different names. I've thought of customer item descriptions, which will be used for some customers anyway, but as you said, it might get a little bit nasty to setup and maintain.

    Data in InventTable is stored as per company...

    So what I would suggest that you should create a new field in this table so that you can have the appropriate name text as per company... and we can keep the original Name as common name for the item across company, which will help you keep standard functionality intact.

    may be you need to modify required places in Dynamics where you can show the company related new Name text.

    Other way you can consider using Product Attribute also for this purpose, which will not need any customization.

    HI Johan,

    If the customer has an specific description, this has the higher priority above the group setting.

    Is there a difference in packaging? Are these products manufatured yourself or do you buy these goods from a supplier?

    You can consider using a product master and have "configurations" per brand/subsidiary. You can release then only the configuration used within an legal entity. These configurations can have a different description.

    You also can create overall reporting per brand.

    Standard AX behaviour will append the configuration description to the product name. Perhaps you will need a small customization to show only the description.

    The solution provided by Nitesh can also work.You only have to think if you need multiple translations per subsidiary/brand.

    Also check where you need to have this description. Do you need it only to appear on sales orders/purchase orders or are there some other reports or forms?
