I want to place Duplicate Detection Rule on Account Names. I have already have duplicate data in my instance so after placing this rule will effect the existing data as well? Means any error or something for existing data?

The detection of duplicate data is triggered when a record is created or updated for all existing data so Yes it will effect the existing data with an error popup.

the dialog will pop up when you edit the existing record.
Stay up to date on forum activity by subscribing. You can also customize your in-app and email Notification settings across all subscriptions.
