Restrict permission to change period status

Hello community,

currently all our accountants can change period status in ledger calendar periods.

I'd like to restrict this permission  only to some group of users.

Is there some other possibility to do this without changing security roles(privileges etc)? or is the customizing of security role the only option?

Thank you!

    Hello,

Restricting user access with security roles and permissions in the Dynamics 365 Finance user interface is the way to go.

    Hi,

You should do it using security roles, maybe you can create a role to deny access to some accountants and other stay have the access.

    Hi Jule,

As mentioned by others, you can manage permissions by configuring security roles, duties, and privileges. I suggest you to avoid the use of deny permissions when possible. That should be used in exceptional use cases only. The deny option overrides access permission, even if another role has access to specific entry points. The best would be creating a role without access to the calendar periods and another role including access. You can create a role without permissions by leaving out specific privileges, duties, or creating new security objects.

    Hi Jule,

As mentioned below, you can configure or customize the security objects (Roles, Duties, and Privileges). Initially, I would try to avoid using deny permissions as these deny permissions are overriding grant permissions, even when permissions are set in another security role. Combinations of multiple roles at one user might then give unexpected results.
Use the deny permissions only in case you need to ensure segregating access when users will have a combination of roles. E.g. on the Vendor Payments clerk, you might set deny permissions for adding, modifying, and deleting vendor bank accounts.
My first attempt would be creating two roles. One without CUD permissions on the periods and one including the CUD permissions.
