Portals - needed or not from April?

Hi Forum - I'm trying to figure out whether you will still need a Dynamics 365 Portal in order to install & use D365 For Marketing after the April release

On the April release notes, it says (link here):

"Previously, the application required Dynamics 365 portals to host features like the subscription center and event portal, but in this release, portals will become optional"

But … the licensing guide seems to contradict this (link here, page 16)

"Dynamics 365 Portal is a mandatory required component for Dynamics 365 for Marketing"

Is there a definitive answer on this?

    Hi Mauro,

I still get the message "no portals are available for this D365 Organisation" when I try to install the Dynamics Marketing Application.

I am on Version 1.35.4744.0 of Dynamics 365 for Marketing.

Any idea how I can resolve this?

    Regards,

    Marcel

    Hi Richard

You can see the preview documentation here:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../marketing-preview-features

But for a more thorough documentation of the upcoming features we will have to wait for the April release.

    Hopefully this will help

    HI Richard

I am very keen to follow the thread you going to raise wrt hosting mechanisms. Please can you send me the link. We have multiple portals bound per marketing module and instance and this will help us understand if we still require these portals

Thanks Mauro.  Could you point me to the documentation on the hosting mechanism for subscription centre pages (hosted and external).  Separately I have a similar question on webforms - but will raise as a separate thread. R

Yes portals can be used, if one wants to, but they are not necessary anymore in order to create a Marketing instance from the April release.

Event portals: we have moved them to a new deployment model leveraging another technology (Angular) so they can be deployed separately to any CMS already.

    This should provide more details:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../event-management-web-application

For subscription center pages we have provided a simple in-house hosting mechanism, while external subscription center pages were already possible.

    Hope this helps

Hi Mauro - thanks for the reply.  To be crystal clear - can you confirm that there will be no need to define a portal in order to install D365 Marketing after the April release?

Separately I'm keen to understand how to implement subscription centre and event portal equivalents outside of Dynamics 365 portals.  Is there any documentation available on this?

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for the heads up about this inconsistency. We will need to update the licensing guide, as portals are no longer mandatory with the April release.
