Microsoft Dynamics Office Add-in

I am trying to link data between Dynamics 365 Business Central and Excel.

The Dynamics data connector is installed in my Excel and all BC settings are completed.

I have ran repair on my Office install.

The function I'm trying to do with the add-in is to "edit" Business Central lists in Excel to publish back changes. At first, I get an error that I don't have permissions, then I get the add-in to work but only have the "design" function, no refresh or publish (like the data isn't connecting).

It was working fine until Wednesday Aug 6th 2025, then eveyone in our office is having the same issue

Your issue—where Edit in Excel only shows the "Design" pane and not "Refresh" or "Publish"—is likely caused by a known bug introduced in Business Central version 26.1, which was released just before August 6th, 2025.

    Observations:

    • The issue started exactly on August 6th, aligning with the BC v26.1 rollout.
    • Multiple users across environments reported that Edit in Excel stopped working, showing only partial functionality [1].
    • The Data Connector pane either fails to load or lacks the expected buttons (Refresh, Publish).
    • This is not a permissions issue, but a version-specific bug.

    Confirmed Fix

     Upgrade to Business Central v26.2

    • Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and released a fix in BC v26.2.
    • After upgrading, the Edit in Excel functionality is fully restored, including:
      • Refresh
      • Publish
      • Proper Data Connector pane behavior
This fix has been confirmed by multiple users and partners [1].

Additional Checks (If Upgrade Isn’t Immediate)

If you cannot upgrade right away, try these interim steps:

    1. Check Add-in Status in Excel

    • Go to File → Options → Add-ins
    • At the bottom, choose Manage: Disabled Items → Go
    • Ensure Microsoft Dynamics Office Add-in is enabled

    2. Sign In to the Connector

    • Open the Excel file
    • If the Data Connector pane is blank, click Sign In
    • Use your Business Central credentials

    3. Try Excel Online

    • Use Edit in Excel via browser (Excel Online) as a temporary workaround [2]
    Summary
    Issue Cause Fix
Edit in Excel missing Refresh/Publish Bug in BC v26.1 Upgrade to BC v26.2
Permissions error Possibly due to Office 365 policy Confirm add-in is enabled
Data Connector not loading Local Excel issue or sign-in required Reinstall add-in or use Excel Online
