Awareness between ledger settlement and year-end close

The feature /Awareness between ledger settlement and year-end close/ seems very useful.
In the GL settlement, it enforces that only one account one year is settled,
The open balance of the account is settled against the year-close transaction.
The problem is, that if I have any settlement in any account in the previous year with a cross year settlemet I can not use the feature.
 
Do you use this feature? Do you have any idea or solution?
