@mentioning a user in a post - where are they notified

Hi all

I am hoping that this is a pretty easy question to answer...

Where/how are users notified if they have been @ mentioned in a Timeline post.

User 1 has opened a Lead and added a post to the records timeline. In the post User 1 has @mentioned User 2.

My questions:

  • Does User 2 get notified with default out-of-the box settings?
    • If yes, where would I see the notification?
    • If no, is there a setting to enable this?

Thanks for your help

    Hi,

When a User1 tags User2 in a post within Timeline. Then User2 will see in the Timeline of his user record. However, OOTB he will not be notified. One of the quickest way would be to automate this via worklow/plugin/flow i.e. whenever User2 is tagged, send email to notify.

You can use the below given feature of Sales Insights to configure notifications using Flow:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/ai/sales/action-cards-reference

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/ai/sales/assistant

Also please refer to below referenced article which talk about similar scenario.

If this is helpful, kindly mark it as verified.

    Thanks,

    Rakesh

Microsoft will be adding functionality in 2021 Release Wave 2 to notify the @mentioned user via Teams chat:

"Use @mentions in the timeline of a record and be assured that the user will be notified automatically in their Teams chat through the Dynamics 365 Sales bot."

    docs.microsoft.com/.../send-automated-chat-notifications-dynamics-365-teams

But this feature won't be in Public Preview until Feb 2022.

    Hi,

    I've created a simple plug-in to achieve this https://arjanterheegde.com/2023/05/09/notify-users-if-they-are-mentioned-in-a-post/.

    Hopefully this will help you.

    Kind regards,

    Arjan
