Purpose of activity number on functions

There are various places where activity numbers are displayed, we cannot seem to understand what the purpose of it is. Is it merely for tracking or is there more to it than meets the eye?

Hi Lizel,

Can you share a screenshot/ more details about which number you are referrring to? Is it the trcking number which appears at the end of email message? If yes, then this number is used in the tracking of email activites from outlook to CRM.

Hi Lizel,

I thought you meant activities in Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement. This is Dynamics 365 F&O. I do not have expeties here but looking at the screenshot, it does look like a unique number to me. Worth posting this questions again on Dynamics Finance & Operation community.
