Developing SSRS Report

ReportReport

Hi,

We are a client of D365FO and almost toward the GO LIVE data of current project. However the we will need a lot of Customised reporting to be done.

I understand that D365FO is using SSRS report, and to be honest I have very little knowledge about that. But if the data is there and I have a template, I can work on from there.

However, the problem is I do NOT know how I can get access to those data tables which is needed for the reporting. I've installed SQL Server Data Tools, just do NOT know how to get it to work.

Could anyone help me on this?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi AaronChen,

Do you have development VM for D365fo?

You could create SSRS report in dev environment by VS simply.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi AaronChen,

The reporting requirements can be fulfilled in many ways. For many of them, you don't even need SSRS reports just a UI form showing all the needed data fulfills the requirement. You have other reporting tools such as Electronic Reporting, Financial reporting, and Power BI reports as well.

Now to answer specific to your question how to get access to data. Ask questions like if a similar report is already existing ex. Sales Invoice and you just have to change the UI. then you can extend the DP and controller classes of existing reports and create new SSRS Design.

If it is all custom report then you can ask users/functional consultants about it to show the UI forms where data exists. In AOT, open those forms and you can get the table, table fields, relations, etc required data.  Then you can create a DP based report or Query-based report.

You may refer below old threads,

Please verify the answer if it resolves your problem.

First of all, it's important to understand that you can't access the D365FO prod database from the outside.

    - You can develop SSRS reports in a D365FO dev system, and deploy those reports into the application (and it's built-in SSRS server)

    - You can export data entities to Azure SQL (BYODB = Bring Your Own Database) and build any reports on top of that

    - You can develop embedded Power BI dashboards that use the built-in AxDW database with aggregate measurements

    - You can use Electronic Reporting to create reports from D365FO data

    - You can use Financial Reporting to report on financial / ledger data of D365FO

    - In an upcoming release you can export tables or data entities to Azure Data Lake and build any reports on top of that

Many many options, and you can start by searching the web for some keywords mentioned above.
