Can't keep track of individual Instagram accounts anymore?

For some time now, it has been impossible to obtain data from third party accounts using SE instagram rules. It only lets you collect data through the associated instagram account(s) you own and from keyword rules using hashtags.

When I create an instagram rule, I use the search button indicating an existing account (@account name) and whatever the account, the search engine indicates that it does not find a match (without results), making it impossible to add any account to follow.

Another fact is that those rules established before this incident started still work but when you access the messages they indicate "unknown author" in the author section.

This is happening to both us and our customers and is crucial to getting relevant data. Any ideas? Could it be that it is related to the new GDPR regulation?

I already assumed something like that, at least we will be able to give this information to our clients, for the moment we will try to continue using hashtags searches.

Thank you very much for the quick response.

Unfortunately, Instagram recently changed their API capabilities, therefore it is currently not possible anymore to setup Instagram account search queries in MSE. Additionally, any existing Instagram account search queries will not acquire any data due to the changes. We are looking to bring back the account search functionality in the coming months, but cannot share yet a firm deadline.

You are still able to setup keyword search rules with hashtags for Instagram, those search queries are returning posts from Instagram. Be aware that currently all posts from Instagram are showing with "Unknown Author". This is a bug and will be fixed soon from our side to surface Instagram posts with author information again.

The "unknown author" issue should be occurring for Facebook and not Instagram. Again, this is a Facebook API change designed to protect privacy. If you own the Facebook page, then a valid engagement token should fix the issue.

Both of these changes to API were probably about GDPR or about the Cambridge Analytica debacle in the USA.
