How to Record Excess Payment as Freight Charges in BC

Hi Folks

I have a posted invoice of $100, but the customer has paid $110. I want to record the excess $10 as freight charges. Since the invoice is already posted with $100, can I receive the full $110 against it and allocate the extra $10 to freight charges? What would be the best way to handle this scenario in Business Central?

You can handle this scenario in Business Central by following these steps:

Post the Payment for $110:

Navigate to Cash Receipt Journal (or Payment Journal if using bank transactions).

Select the customer and enter $110 as the payment amount.

Apply $100 to the posted invoice.

Allocate the Extra $10 to Freight Charges:

In the same journal, add a new line.

Select G/L Account for Freight Charges.

Enter $10 as the amount and ensure it balances the total receipt.

Post the Journal:

Verify that the total amount is correct ($110).

Post the journal to record both the payment and the additional freight charge.

This ensures that the invoice is fully settled while properly allocating the excess payment.
