Moving Master Data on D365 between Production-UAT-Dev environments

Posted on by 1,189

Hi,

As far as i know i can refresh databases from Production to UAT through service request on LCS, but how can i move master data between the three environments? i have valid master data on Dev and need to move it to UAT, is there a way other than data management framework where i have to export and import each entity ?

Thank you,

You can do that but you have to do a data upgrade first.

Data upgrade is needed when moving to a new application version (this will not be needed in future updates when updating from 8.0+ to later versions according to MS).

Thanks a lot Nikolaos , I just tried it and it worked perfectly, my last question is can i export\ import databases between different D365 versions? I think I can not but I just want to make sure.

I have UAT with Application version july update platform update 12 and Dev with application version 1611 platform update 15, i know it is a mess but I want to delete the dev environment and create new one with same UAT version, but can I restore the dev database to UAT in this case before I delete it ? or they need to be same versions?

    Thank you,

You have to add ".database.windows.net" to the db server name that you see in LCS. You have to run SSMS on the UAT VM, and run it as administrator.

If you see database info "foo/axdb" in LCS, the server name is foo.database.windows.net.

Thank you for your usual support Nikolaos,

but how can I access my UAT database instance? when I run SSMS on UAT and try to connect to sql as per the sql instances names on LCS and credentials on LCS it gives network error, is there any prerequisite needed to access?

    Thank you,

You can export / import the database: [View:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/dev-itpro/database/copy-database-from-sql-server-to-azure-sql]

For subsets of data you have to use data entities.
