Hi experts,
Is there any way to import users from Azure AD to On-premise D365 F&O?
When I try to import users in the menu "Import Users", it connects to On-premise AD.
Thank you in advance.
As far as I know, the on-premise deployment uses Active Directory (on-premise), not Azure Active Directory.
Hi Kateioi,
You can try to use import AD security groups.

As mentioned above, the on-premises system doesn't use Azure AD, it uses ADFS. You can't import users from a system that is not used in the whole authentication process. And even if you could, the users could not login since - as mentioned - AAD is not used in the authentication.
Like mentioned above, this is not possible. You can, however, you can sync Azure AD with a on-premise AD. Then you are able to import them.
Hi Nikolaos,
Thank you for your comments.
Is it a possible way to get authentication from AAD via ADFS?
Can I configure AAD as a primary authentication?
Hi Andre,
I’ve completed sync users to Azure AD through AD Connector.
However, since users are synced from on-prem AD, ADFS still sends authentication to on-prem AD.
In order to authenticate from Azure AD what should I have to configure more?
You can't authenticate with AAD when you use on-premises system. AAD is a cloud solution and on-premises is not connected to cloud solutions. One of the main purposes of on-premises it to serve customers who don't want to use cloud and don't want to send data (such as user information) to cloud.
D365FO users ADFS for authentication. If you have questions about configuring ADFS it's good to post questions in some forum which is related to ADFS, not Dynamics. There you would find help of people who are experts of ADFS.
Like mentioned above, the local AD is the source for AD FS and Dynamics 365 on-premise.
The sync from AAD is only to help get users synchronized in the local AD.
Hi Nicolaos,
Thank you for your reply.
I’m a bit shocked that I can’t authenticate with Azure AD when I use on-premise D365. Is this a not supported feature?
Yep. The cloud version uses a cloud based identity provider, and on-premises uses on-premises based identity provider. Makes sense to me.
