User license assignment D365 FO

Hi Experts,

Tables LicensingUserDirectLicenseAssignments and LicensingUserLicensesByRole gives good insight on the roles and its appropriate Licenses required with priorities

To play around, I assigned Accounting manager, Budget manager and Marketing manager roles to an user and checked the records in the tables

Finance has lower priority 70 and required user license is showing as Attach
SCM has higher priority 80 and required user license is showing as Base

However, Finance SKU has 6110 covered entitlements and SCM SKU has 103 covered entitlements

Finance SKU which has higher number of covered entitlements (6110) recommended as Attach
SCM SKU which as lower number of covered entitlements (103) recommended as Base

Any thoughts on this.

Thanks,
Sridhar Narayanan

    Hi Sridhar,

You can ignore the Attach versus Base suggestion in the column RequiredUserLicense. You can choose yourself which one will be assigned as base and which as an attach. The priority within the group Commerce, or Finance, or SCM has no meaning about which one to use as base or attach.

In the Dynamics 365 Licensing Guide, there is a table where you can read what base and attach combinations are possible. In case the subscription amount is the same, you can choose.
In your example, you can choose between:

    Finance base - SCM attach
    SCM base - Finance attach.

If you have sufficient base licenses you can even choose to assign:

    Finance base - SCM base.

The number of covered objects is checking which licenses are required. If the logic started with the SCM role, then this had e.g. 6000 covered and the remaining was then for Finance. The outcome is the same. Currently for this user, there is a requirement for both Finance and SCM.
