Hii,

We want to run Fixed asset balances report (AssetBalances) for a previous year and date.

Fixed assets > Reports > Transactions > Periodic > Fixed asset balances,  it runs on current date and has no data parameters. I checked AssetBalances table and it dont have date field.

How I can get same report by date If write SQL query and tables involved or some other way?

Thanks,

    Hi Rana Anees,

You can make use of the fixed asset Statement Report instead.

This report allows you specifying a from and to date but requires some prior setup.

Here is a brief description how the report is setup

    www.trideapartners.com/.../microsoft-dynamics-ax-fixed-asset-statement

An alternative would be making use of the so-called 'Belgian fixed asset Statement report' that does not require making those setups. Yet, because it is a country-specific report you have to ask a developer first for some help to make this report available for you.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Rana Anees,

Please have a look at the AssetsReportController class, the related classes and at the AssetTransactionListing tables if you want to modify the  asset balances report.

Yet, please also consider making use of the fixed asset statement report and use the available date ranges. Probably you can question your finance users why they need the asset balance report and this modification and can't use the standard asset statement report which basically provides the same information;-)

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hii Ludwig Reinhard,

I discussed with our Finance team, they saying for auditing they need asset balances report transaction wise (movements), that's not in asset statement report.

Requirement is asset balances report to see on a specific date.

Still struggling to add date on asset balances report.

    Regards,

    Hi Rana Anees,

Yeah you are right the movements are not explicitly shown in the standard reports. If your accountants can't live without this information :-) you will have to modify the fixed asset statement report or create one yourself. This shouldn't be too difficult because if I remember it correctly, fixed asset movements are simply classified as acquisitions and issuances you you just need to create a new column for them.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hii Ludwig Reinhard,

I understand your point will modify Fixed asset transactions report.

I have another question to understand. When I run Asset Balances report as of today, it shows all records ranges up to 14 pages and according to finance its total net book value matches with balance sheet.

Now when I run asset transactions report (Reports -> Transactions -> Fixed asset transactions) as of today, the report is empty, no record to show, but if I run to 31/12/2016 date, it shows all records. This is the reason asset transactions report net book value not matches with balance sheet. Finance wants to see report which matches net book value with balance sheet asset values.

Can you please guide how and from where data is coming to asset transactions report. What things maybe finance not doing so data is not come or anything else we are missing?

    Thanks,

    Hi Rana Anees,

Sorry for the late reply, I thought that I already answered...

The fixed asset transaction report is generated through the assetreportcontroller class and it is thus not that easy simply adding a date column into the report because you will need some help from a developer.

The best report for reconciling GL with fixed assets is the asset balance report and I don't think that you have to create a date value for that if the report is always created at month end right after the depreciation are run. That is, this report and the reconciliation process should be part of your month end check list.

If you feel that you have a variance between GL and fixed assets, the best and fastest option to find out is setting up all fixed assets with their own fixed asset financial dimension. Once this is done, you can use the Trial Balance in GL for reconciliation simply by selecting a financial dimension set that includes your fixed assets and main account dimensions.

If you haven't used a fixed asset financial dimension in the past, this won't help you and the only way to identify whether a difference between GL and fixed assets exists is reconciling the different fixed asset accounts at month end right before the books are closed for the month.

In summary you have two options in my opinion:

    1. With the help of a developer create an own fixed asset reconciliation report similar to the ones that are available in GL for customers and vendors.

    2. Alternatively, dig through the fixed asset ledger accounts and filter by posting types to identify whether some Manual postings have been created on those accounts.

    Hope this helps.

    Ludwig

From my opinion Rana is raising a relevant question about "Fixed Asset Balance"-report but need for running it by date.

The report is super and show proper contents but it should have the possibility to be run per a selected date.

The Fixed asset statement report requires you to create summary-lines for several assets ackumulated in one single balance. Normally you want the report to show one line per asset. That might be possible in Fixed asset statement report but it would require huge effort on around config since you need to create a lot of summary lines where each line only cover one asset. And also need for keeping it up to date as new assets are acquired.

I think Ax standard is lacking proper report support around this matter.
