Cycle counting using mobile scanner with Dynamics warehousing app

Hi,

I have some queries related to cycle counting using a mobile scanner that has Dynamics warehousing app installed in it.

1. I created a work for cycle counting for a location. During counting (I am using a menu with 'user directed' work selection), the app prompts me to key-in the item code followed by color and serial number (I am keying in and not scanning). If I enter a serial number which does not exist in stock, then an error is given as "serial number not valid". I am allowed to continue only after entering a correct serial number which existed in stock. Is this Ok from a functional point of view? In real scenario, I may have serial number A001 in system stock (probably someone wrongly registered it) but the physical stock can have A002. I should be allowed to correct it during counting and proceed, right? Please share your thoughts.

2. I created a work for cycle counting for a location. During counting (I am using a menu with 'system directed' work selection), system automatically display items in the location (without me scanning/ keying-in anything) and prompts me to key in the qty. If I enter a quantity that is different from system stock, an error is thrown as "count differs from on-hand qty. if required, repeat the count". I have no option to tell that I want to proceed further with the quantity I entered. Please let me know I am missing something here.

3. Another observation in above scenario (point 2) is - System automatically takes the serial number from system stock. There is no provision for me to scan or key-in the serial number. In real scenario I may count a serial number that is different from the system stock.

4. Is there a way to recount, if some of the counted lines are rejected? The requirement is to automatically initiate a recount only for the rejected lines.

Regards,

Sreehari.

    Hi Sreehari,

    Replies for your queries

1 - If you have a wrong batch registered in AX then you cannot correct the batch during cycle counting using a mobile device app. Cycle counting is used to record the counted stock against the physical stock in AX and to post the respective adjustments later on to correct for any differences. You have to use transfer journal to correct wrongly registered batches before you start cycle counting. So what system is doing is standard and correct from functional point of view.

2 - As you are using option system directed work AX will automatically show locations and items on mobile device and will only request quantity input from worker. So in case worker entered wrong quantity AX gives a notification that "Count differs from on hand if required repeat the count" because you have setup number of attempts in mobile device menu setup to be 1 at least. So in case we have physical inventory in AX as 11 pcs and worker counted 7 pcs and entered them in mobile device he will get the notification as discussed above. Now if the worker wants to continue with 7 pcs only as counted stock reenter 7 and press ok. The mobile device will take next item in cycle counting operation.

3- This is standard and correct as you are counting a system generated cycle count. So you have to follow whats you're asked to count and you have to follow the sequence in which mobile device presents items with there dimensions. For a free hand on count use option user directed in mobile device options.

4- No its not possible in this way. In out of box you have option to specify "Number of attempts"in mobile device menu items and AX will keep on giving you chance to recount for the number of times mentioned in "number of attempts" field and once the data is confirmed it cant be called back.
