QR Code of the guides

Hi all,

I'm totally new to Dynamics 365 Guides and I'm currently making work instruction guides for the technical staff in a company.

my question is about anchoring a guide with a QR code:

Everytime that I create a new guide,  dynamics  365 Guides generates the same QR code so do I have to provide my own QR code each time or there is some settings to do in order to make a new one?

Thank you in advance.

Nouria.

I have the same question (0)

RE: QR Code of the guides

The default QR Code (with the small anchor) is indeed static but provides the best placement/anchoring solution.

If you want to direct your user to a specific Guide or Step, you can copy the Guide/Step link by doing right-click on a guide or step.

You can then generate a QRCode for this link using any generator like : www.qr-code-generator.com/

    There are some info here:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../pc-app-anchor-embed-qr-code-link

But mainly, you will have to follow those rules to get a nice readable QRCode:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../pc-app-anchor-qr-code

    - size (at least 10cm/4inches) and orientation of the printed QRCode

    - avoid glossyness on the printed QRCode

    Hope this helps

RE: QR Code of the guides

Hi IRBAH, the QR code downloaded from the anchor page is static. In the PC app, you can click Download QR code to copy a PDF file to your PC. The PDF has useful tips along with the printable QR code on the last page. More information can be found here: Anchor a guide in the Dynamics 365 Guides PC app by using a QR code anchor - Dynamics 365 Mixed Reality | Microsoft Docs

Per Vincent you can also create your own QR codes that open a specific guide. You can use these as an anchor too, which allows the operator to more quickly open the guide and get started. Information can be found here: Embed a link in a QR code to make it easy to open a guide in Dynamics 365 Guides - Dynamics 365 Mixed Reality | Microsoft Docs

Welcome to Guides and Mixed Reality :-) I hope your deployment is successful and please continue to post questions and feedback on the forum.

RE: QR Code of the guides

Thanks @Vincent and @Dave  for your answers.

With that been said, do I have to create new QR code  using the link for all my guides (I'll create more than 40 guide) or I can just use the static one for all my guides? which one is better.

    Thanks.

RE: QR Code of the guides

Just to further clarify, you can use the same QR code for different guides.

You only need distinct QR codes per guide if you are embedding a link to the guide in the QR code (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/mixed-reality/guides/pc-app-anchor-embed-qr-code-link)

RE: QR Code of the guides

When I generated a QR code with the Guide/Step link, the QR code recognized the link as a web link, so it tried to open it in Microsoft Edge on the HoloLens instead of opening Dynamics 365 guides. Do you have a fix for this?

RE: QR Code of the guides

    Hi Roni

Are you using the 'deep link' prefix from the Guides PC app or a link from the browser URL from the admin app in PowerApps?

    Here's the relevant documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/mixed-reality/guides/pc-app-anchor-embed-qr-code-link

RE: QR Code of the guides

    Hi Ryan,

Thanks for the response. I am copying the link from the PC app. Right clicking on the guide and then clicking "Copy link to this guide." When I enter this link into a 3rd party QR code generator, it is recognized as a web link.

I would like to hop on this QR code bandwagon and say that I think Microsoft should make a first party QR Code generator. Something that can be integrated into various products like guides

Aha, when you create the guide do not select web url as the type just regular text. I think when you select web url it appends an http:// prefix which is what's confusing the launcher.

Alternatviely, you can just append the deep link to this api.qrserver.com/.../
